Unit 1 What is Leadership


The Unit includes 3 lessons + Revise & Check:

  • Bad bosses and how to deal with them

  • Revise & Check

In this Unit, you will discuss leadership qualities, different types of bad bosses and how to deal with them. You will find out the difference between leadership and management as well as learn some leadership secrets and habits that lead to success.

These lessons are available in three modes of learning:

  • Student only
  • Teacher-Student
  • Blended learning (flipped classroom): the first 2 lessons are taken as a self-study and the last one with a teacher.

Unit 2 Leadership Styles

The Unit includes 3 lessons + Revise & Check:

  • Leadership style theories
  • Lewin’s theory: autocratic style vs. democratic style
  • Lewin's theory: laissez-faire style
  • Revise & Check

This Unit is about leadership styles and different theories that help to define which styles work best and where to be applied in modern business today. You will look into Lewin’s theory and get some useful expert insights.

These lessons are available in three modes of learning:

Unit 4 Leadership

The Unit includes 2 basic lessons, 2 case studies, and a choice of 2 Revise & Check lessons, depending on the skill the student would like to focus on:

  • Delegation
  • Situational leadership
  • Case study: chairing a kick-off meeting, MADS
  • Case study: practice chairing a kick-off meeting
  • Revise & Check: Speaking
  • Revise & Check: Writing

Grammar: The imperative, Adverbs of manner

Functional language use: giving instructions, giving reasons, setting a task, making suggestions, asking for comments

In this Unit, the concept of leadership is considered in terms of delegation and conflict resolution in the team. Together with your student, you will learn how to chair efficient meetings based on the example of MADS, a leading creative online platform that offers signature courses and masterclasses.


New Business
Upper-Intermediate
Unit 3 Leadership Position

The Unit includes 2 basic lessons, 1 case study and 1 role-play lesson, a self-study lesson and a choice of 2 Revise & Check lessons, depending on the skill the student would like to focus on:

  • A job interview
  • Business writing: a cover letter
  • Case study: talking about a challenge
  • Role-play: skill-based interview
  • Reading self-study: playing an active role at a job interview
  • Revise & Check: Speaking
  • Revise & Check: Writing

Grammar: action and non-action verbs

Functional language use: stating motivation, explaining benefits, asking for details, asking for feedback, giving feedback, arguing persuasively, reformulating, exemplifying

In this Unit, the student will get a chance to analyze a job description, listen to a job interview and evaluate a candidate. Also, the student will learn to state motivation and describe achievements while writing a cover letter. In lesson 3, the ex-head of recruitment at Unilever will share her experience on difficult questions asked at an interview for a managerial position. In the end, the student will practice providing strong points during a job interview.
